Week 14 Blog

Team Teamy was not chosen to present this week so that means we will be presenting next week. This week while watching the presentations, not only myself but our whole group learned a lot on what groups did well, what they could’ve did better on and little bits and pieces to add to our website. We realized that in order to meet the requirements for length, we will need a little more content than we have since we don’t want our audience to just be watching videos the whole time. The thing I like about our website and content so far is that all of it is interesting and I don’t believe our audience will be bored by any place fillers or things like that. Once we get all of our content loaded into our website, we will be able to put the finishing touches on it and publish it on to the web.

This week for our project, I communicated with my group on what the next steps we needed to do and what would be the best thing for me to get done. I also communicated with my group before and after the zoom call to make sure we were on the same page. I didn’t encounter any challenges this week but as our practice presentation rolls around next week, I hope don’t encounter any challenges either.

Week 13 Blog

Currently, we have been struggling with availability to finish our final content but lucky we were able to fix that this week. What still needs to be done are voiceovers, finalizing edits, and publishing to the site, along else with dividing presentation roles, which won’t be a problem. We are in the works and having high hopes that we will be done with the majority of everything by this weekend, that way, all we’ll need to do next week is make tweaks and see which works better where. While we don’t need help from the faculty we would like the faculty to know there’s a lot we planned for this project we can no longer do because of quarantine. What I personally want for our team is for all of us to be aware and determined on what needs to be fixed for the final project website. This means we want to promptly address all mistakes made in the practice presentation.

This week, Carson and I finished all the video content we needed for the website, we have sent this to Jonathan to finish editing and are looking to see how it ties together to determine if we need more content or not. Challenges that occurred were not having a proper mic to do voiceovers with, and the stressful time of pulling a project together where a few of us are unable to meet due to lock down procedures. By next week we want to finish the project entirely and have it ready for the final presentation.

Week 13 Blog

Before the practice presentations begin on Tuesday, our team still needs to finalize some parts of our website and add our content to it. We also need to divvy up the parts of the presentations to each group member, which won’t be hard at all. Our website doesn’t quite need to be the finished product yet, but it would be helpful to be as close to that as possible so we can get helpful feedback from our practice one. As of right now, we don’t need any specific help from faculty but that could be proven wrong if something looks off in our practice presentation. This is why I’m excited for the practice presentation so we can get a feel for how these websites should be looking and coming along, and then get some help if needed.

This past week I created the website and we’ve been working on specifics on the format and visuals, also adding our content to the website will be a task since most of us are new to Wix, but it shouldn’t a huge complication. Creating the website was not that challenging, since Wix is fairly simple to use, but in the future I’d explore other options perhaps.

Week 13 Blog

It is crazy to think we are only 2 weeks away from finals week and our final presentations. Our team is finalizing shooting the content, editing the content and putting it all together on our website. I’m not sure yet if we will need help from any faculty, just the only thing I am struggling with personally is figuring out how to use wix and getting what I want put on the website. Not having used wix before has been a struggle but I’m slowly learning the ropes. We haven’t discussed who is presenting what each person will present yet but I believe it will be easy to divide the tasks. Carson and Jacob are great speakers and know a lot of what they’re talking about so I’m assuming they will have the lead roles. From the practice presentation, I hope to get to know how the presentation will go like. I’m excited to see how other groups present as well to get some knowledge of how we want it to look like.

This week for our group project, I continued to work on the website with Brennen, as well as, I communicated with Jacob about what all they needed to record and edit still. I didn’t face any challenges this week but I could see us facing a couple challenges as we try to wrap up everything we are trying to finish. I’m excited to get the presentation over with you.

Week 12 Blog

This week we were able to really figure out where we were and make an outline of how we would finish the project. We really narrowed down and separated our responsibilities for the next two weeks to finish this off.

Jacob and Carson who are still in Lincoln will be finishing off the filming of the last few meals of the project, while Carter and Brennan will work on getting the site up and adding some creativity and interactiveness to the project. I will be doing the editing for the footage and we have decided that we should have the project finished up and polished by the end of next week.

Week 12 Blog

Our content is looking good for now but Carson and I are going to reshoot and make a few more videos this week, so far what’s going well is creative angles, great lighting, and successful dishes that look appealing with a step by step basis, when we begin editing, we will put a basic third in for every shot explaining exactly what needs to be done in order to create the dish, along with a textual recipe as well since the videos will be sped up and a bit more fast paced. We have a website domain now and will begin adding content to it once everything is finalized and edited. I am very grateful for everyone’s hard work and determination through this time. The only challenges we have encountered is not being able to stick to our proposed schedule and not being able to meet in person. Another challenge is we don’t have a fantastic microphone to do voice overs, but we can still make it happen with camera mics hooked to an audio source. What we plan on doing differently is adding just a few more dishes with different camera set ups to see how they would look finalized. I am glad our group has access to media without the help of the J School and we will be able to finish the project on time. Once everything is done we plan to add it to the website and finish this project out strong.

This week, Carson, Jonathan, and I discussed new roles for the group with permission from Brennan and Carter and have decided since Carson and I are in Lincoln still we will film content while Jonathan edits and Brennan and Carter add to the website. I hope to have all of our content completed by the end of next week. We will still have discussions on what we need to add to the site that will make it more interactive.

Week 12 Blog

A lot of things are going very well with our content at this point. Before the shutdown of the university and almost everything else in this city, we were able to get a good chunk of our recording of our content done. The website at this point isn’t exactly where we want it to be but this weekend should be a great, cold weekend to get it all wrapped up. Challenges we’ve encountered are mostly through the website. All of the websites you see online that you enjoy and are very easy to get through and easy on the eye, are websites that were most likely not made on wix.com or another website builder. If I was better with coding, I would try to make a website off that but I’m not. I think if we were to do something differently next time, we’d get started on the website as soon as our groups were decided and we had a topic chosen.

For my contribution this week, I have been trying to get a good start on the website so the other group members working on shooting and editing the content can get the content up on the website. Something I did wrong this week was that I accidentally forgot about the zoom team check in, which dropped my grade. Differently in the future, I will check canvas before I go to bed on Monday and will remember about the zoom meeting.

Week 12 Blog

Most of our team’s media has been finalized, we had some of our content recorded before classes went online and some of our members went home to their families. We got enough content to offer some solid visuals to our website, but we will be relying on more design and information now than we would have originally, which is completely fine. Definitely has been a challenge communicating and motivating each other to get pieces done but it’s been a learning experience for us all and is important to figure out team deadlines and how to individually meet them.

This week I began cracking down on the website (using Wix for the first time), and it’s been a work in progress. I’m trying to create a platform where it will look good and be easy for the rest of my team to drag our content into and start wrapping this up.

Week 11 Blog

This week, we needed to figure out how we are going to work together on our project now that we are all separated because of the coronavirus. Three of our group members Jacob, Carson, and Brennan presented their interactive project presentations, which all gave us really interesting ideas for different directions we could go with our project.

We pretty much have all of our cooking footage finished up, so we won’t have to meet to work on that, so the distance won’t have much of an effect on the rest of our project since all that we have to do left is edit the footage and create a website to put these videos and instructions for cooking and both of these can very easily be done remotely and we don’t need everyone together in order to get the rest of our project finished up and polished.

Week 11 Blog

A good website is something that is easy to follow for the reader while visually appealing at the same time. Something in which the reader would say, “this was simple to figure out and I enjoyed looking at it.” This is the kind of website team teamy would like to create. One trend I have noticed in the presentation of websites is a moving graphic as a title page and the user can just scroll down and begin to click on whatever feature they please. Another trend uses solid graphics and features that assist the user in making it easier to find what they need to find, not forcing them to stay on the site longer than they need to, what I mean by making it easier is putting effort to make working tabs, good usage of video, audio, and text, and just overall good code to ensure the user has a great experience. This translate into story telling by having a theme for the website and not using random code to throw something together, a website should use the features I listed above to get the point they’re trying to make across in a way the user would have fun in understanding. For instance, our group is making entertaining food cooking videos which would be fun to watch and also informative for people who are not used to cooking on their own. The difference between a desktop and mobile device is not only the size of the screen, but the overall layout of a website. A mobile should have easier to read versions of text and videos should display over the full screen. Desktops are easier to navigate depending on what type of mobile device someone would have. In this case, if someone were to use our website on a mobile device, they should experience a more simple effect without unnecessary graphics and text that is easier to read, something they could do from anywhere.

This week I reached out to the group to see what is going on and how we are going to be able to finish this with some of us no longer in Lincoln. I believe we still can as long as we have equipment for content, we have knowledge of video editing and lighting kits so we are not worried about this part. The thing we are most focused on is website layout and where we are going to put everything and getting more content over the next few weeks to get this project done on time.
