Final Blog

I thought this team did an exemplary job on each aspect of this project especially when you consider the circumstances. We may have had to pivot our story three times but I speak for our group when I say we are extremely proud of our final project. With everyone being spread out across the country, in their own quarantine this project became very difficult to complete with the production quality we were initially striving for. We were able to recover on this front because luckily Jacob decided to stay in town rather than head home so myself and him broke quarantine to do another round of filming. With this we had over 80 percent of the content we needed and the bulk of my job was done. Obviously I helped in other aspects of this project, mainly the presentation and blog posts to finish up our website, but my real passion for th9is project was to produce the highest quality video possible and I think our team did a great job of meeting that goal. Once this was done Jonathan was able to edit together each video from his home in California. On the other side of this project Carter and Brennan worked tirelessly on creating a very clean and effective website for us to present all of this content.

In terms of our presentation I thought our group once again killed it. There was so much going on with our website and finishing our edited videos that I was pleasantly surprised that we were all able to perform well during the presentation over Zoom where I find it very hard to present compared to in class presentations.

Finally, the end has come. It was a wild but fun journey throughout the semester. I don’t think we will ever experience anything like this in our lifetime again, but I think our group did a fantastic job of handling it. Although we weren’t able to meet in person and record our content as much as we thought we would be able to, I believe we were able to virtually communicate well and turned our website into what we wanted it to be like. Without Jacob though, we would’ve struggled through the end. He grabbed this project by the horns and made it his own and we are all so grateful for that. I am also very happy with how our presentation went. Even though we got critiqued pretty hard, I still believe all of us had a great mindset going into the presentation and delivered it in the way we wanted. I also enjoyed that we presented earlier in the week, so it gave us time to finish up and change some things that we forgot to add or things we didn’t think about before the presentation. I was grateful for this class because it showed me things that I had never learned before as well as put us through challenges that we will soon face again. Thanks, Alan, for a great semester.

I think our final presentation went really well given the circumstances. All of our group members were in able spots to join and contribute so that was what made our presentation go well. The project itself was a slight disappointment but only because we had so many great ideas and plans to do as a whole group that were unfortunately diminished, but I’m really proud of the work we were able to get done and at the end of the day, our website looks really good. I believe my contributions were very beneficial to the overall status of our final project. By creating the website, I was able to help my team by making it easy for the guys we had the final edited media to import it onto. Everyone did a good job with their tasks as well, and the final product wouldn’t be as good without the contributions of everyone.

One thing that definitely could have been done differently was get on it way sooner so we had more time to polish up our website before the final presentation, but I think we actually did a pretty good job. Our presentation went well, everyone knew what they were talking about and spoke fairly clearly. The biggest challenge remains the obvious, but I believe we did extremely well. And yes, it is good experience for real world interactions in a group setting but you do have to remember none of us had that mindsight coming into the course. So, I think for a team who did almost all of our work in isolation, we did a really good job.

I do have some thoughts on how our project/presentation went this week. I personally think my group killed it as far as presentation goes and I am very proud of my group for being able to step up and help make this all happen. I was fine with the project itself aside from needing to go in and make some minor changes. To evaluate my own performance, I think I did well considering I rehearsed what I was going to say at least 10 times the night before the presentation and the morning of, I do not think I made any awkward pauses or fumbled my words in a way that would’ve taken away any form of effective communication. I knew what I was going to discuss as I was saying it and I was confident my group would do the same. As far as the rest of the group went I think it everyone did great job with their topic to speak about for the presentation. Everyone gave themselves the subject of what they would be discussing and I appreciated everyone’s individual leadership and stepping up to present what they had done for this project.

The only thing I would have done differently was getting on this sooner than later, I feel like my group waited a while before we got content shot let alone post it on the site. I also would have devised a final plan much earlier and sticking to that rather than deciding what we were gonna do 2 weeks before we present. The main challenges we came across was not being able to meet in person as a group to really sit with each other and figure it out. I am still incredibly proud with how everything turned out, I could not have asked for a better group to grind this project with and will help make necessary changes to the site this week.

Week 15 Blog

We did our practice presentation this week and figured out we had a lot to do. The main point of emphasis was to get our own content onto the website, the layout website I designed to fit our scheme so it was really easy to read and navigate. I made it almost a template so all we had to do was pick and drop where our videos or photos were going to go. Also, we need to fill in our information and pay attention to some extra details on our site so it’s better rounded. I learned that some of the other groups are in similar spots to us so that made me feel a little better. All of our content is complete and ready to be added, we may have to use Youtube for posting the hyper links to our videos, but it shouldn’t be a problem. We may try to find a way that allows people to be able to play the Youtube video on our website so they don’t have to leave it but that’s still a work in progress as well.

This week I worked on tweaking the website a bit, trying to get it looking perfect before adding in all our final content. On our website template that I originally created, it came with a lot of additional information that we hadn’t thought about adding, like social media or location of company, etc. So this gave us some additional ideas to add to our website, to make it look more real and professional. It should be really cool when completely finished.

Week 15

We did present this week but were still pretty underprepared for the final presentation we will need to give Tuesday. I am extremely proud of the work Spicy Boys, Inc. has done over the semester and I am liking what I am seeing as far as website creation goes. The things we will do differently will include creating a YouTube account in Spicy Boys’ name and upload our videos there with interactive clickable links to put on the site, we will also add which cities our members are in on the map at the bottom of our home page along with the HyVee we bought our ingredients from, I will have still pictures of more meals I make this weekend to have on the site because we can not meet at the same time for more videos and we do not need anymore video content. We will also formally script what we will say and assign specific roles for each group member to talk during our presentation.

This week I created the official logo of Spicy Boys and sent it to my group members for approval, I will continue to get recipes and pictures of further meals to put on the site so we have more content. I will assist where needed if need be to make sure our videos are working on YouTube and are able to be clicked on from the website. This week I also lead off our practice presentation and told Alan what our plan will be to get our site finished on time and have a fruitful presentation on Tuesday.

Week 15 Blog

Spicy Boys Inc. presented this week and I thought we had a really good plan and process put in place. Although we didn’t have all of our content loaded up on the page before presenting, we were able to describe through our words on where every thing would be located once we were all finished up with it. I enjoyed all of the comments from other students and Alan, because we had a few questions going into the presentation that were answered through comments. We just need to continue to work on getting our content put on the page because one of the best comments we received was that they liked the layout so just once we get all of our content uploaded, it should look perfect. We plan on getting most of it done this weekend.

For my contributions this week, I helped communicate in our group chat before our presentation on what we wanted to get out of this practice presentation and what all we needed to say. I am also working on social media sites for our website to add our content too because the layout we chose to use on our website, has links to social media sites. I am also looking at turning the map on the website into a more of a interactive map where it shows where we are all currently living and where we shopped to get the ingredients for our content.

Week 14 Blog

This week we began to round out the end of our project. All of our footage was filmed by Jacob and Carson last weekend and Carter and Brennan have set up the website. All I have to do left is finishing editing the meal videos and once I do that we are good to put those on the website with the recipes and ingredients next to or under the videos and that will be the last step in finishing our project.

Carson and Jacob did a great job of rallying and getting that footage done especially with the restrictions we have to adhere to because of the coronavirus. Brennan and Carter did a great job on the website and made it look real nice, creative, and very organized. Now I just have to come through with my part and get the editing and creative touches of the videos done and our project will be completely finished and ready to present.

Week 14 Blog

Our group did not present this week but it was really interesting and enjoyable to sit back and watch some of the presentations. Our website is coming along and I think it looks pretty slick but compared to some of the other teams, I think we are a tad behind when it comes to level of completion. We worked this week to catch up because it was clear the other teams put in a lot of good work and have a lot of content.

This week I just started tweaking parts of the website, messing with different formats and visuals so it can look as clean and easy-to-navigate as possible, as that is the path we chose for our website. We’re trying to get all of our content on the site, whether that is pictures or videos, but it was a little tricky for the ones who had the final edited pieces of media so that’s the only challenge we have right now. Once that’s completed, we’ll figure out who is presenting which part, a lot of our media speaks for itself so it will be fun.

Week 14 Blog

Although we did not present this week, I learned how the format of my groups website should more/less be looking when we present and how to present the layout of the website in a given time. So far I am incredibly proud of the website my group has created in both its layout and aesthetic, along with its simplicity. The two groups that went this week showed they really were passionate about their projects and I admired that each individual had their own personal content to share with the rest of the group. My group will not have individual personal content due to the virus which separated all but two of us, and being the only ones with equipment that could actually produce content. I am still confident in our project because although not all of us had individual content, each member had a role to fill and did exactly what was needed to bring this project together in the end. I also noticed how these groups did different styles of layout, I wish to keep our website looking unique in its own way and although I liked the other groups’ web design, I cannot see my team going the same route they did out of purpose for individuality.

This week we finalized all content, we decided against the voiceovers because we just could get it to sound good although I recorded soundbites over the weekend. Carson, Jonathan, and I decided it was best to put light and pleasing music over the videos so the viewer can relax while learning how to cook in quarantine. We have also officially decided to go the stay at home cooking route and make every video something anyone can do while locked up in their house/apartment. We are proud of our work with the circumstances and I am excited to see how it all turns out in the end.
