Week 3 Blog: Carson Allen

This semester I am focusing on making my team better by communicating effectively and providing quality feedback.

Good teams exhibit good communication skills as well as good work ethic. These two key elements create an unstoppable force. If one team member requests additional help, the other team members should be able to offer that help – through good communication. A good team is as strong as their “weakest” member. Good work ethic ensures that a team can create a successful project through the teams common goal – contributing to create something larger by breaking down aspects of the project and assigning/delegating roles to members. This is accomplished by yet again good communication and a teams good work ethic.

What does NOT help a team is poor communication. That is the root issue of any group. If a team member lacks the ability to relay to their fellow members that they are busy, struggling with an aspect of the project, or any other reason to be unable to finish their assigned task, this must be communicated so that other team members can then redistribute delegate the task to other members.

Additionally, this week I mainly focused on coming up with new ideas because we as a group decided against our original idea of looking deeper at the humane society. The two ideas I came up with were to one, spotlight huskervision student interns and two, create a story on Husker Cats and the people who take car of them. I didn’t face many challenges this week because my group members enjoyed my ideas and were able to come up with the final idea once I got stuck trying to think of a third. In the future, I would communicate better with my team prior to our meeting so that we could all have more story ideas coming into class.
